Kadabra is a popular Psychic-type Pokémon that has been a staple of the Pokémon TCG
since its inception. But the Kadabra card has not been printed in any official Pokémon TCG sets since the Skyridge collection in 2003. Since then fans of the game have been eagerly awaiting its return!
What happened with the Kadabra Pokémon card?
The Kadabra card's Japanese name is "Yungerer," which sounds similar to the name of the famous illusionist, Uri Geller. He is known for his psychic and spoon-bending acts, just like Kadabra is also portrayed with a spoon. This was until Pokémon released the special edition Team Rocket Kadabra with the name "Dark Kadabra" which showed an "Evil Yungerer". This was not something that Geller wanted to be associated with and he decided to sue Nintendo and The Pokémon Company for using his likeness without permission on the Kadabra card. As a result, the Kadabra card was pulled from circulation in the Pokemon TCG, and has not been reprinted in any official sets since 2003.
Why is the Kadabra Pokémon card coming back?
In November 2020, Uri Geller, announced on Twitter that he had given permission for the card to be reprinted.
Geller wrote, "I am truly sorry for what I did 20 years ago. Kids and grownups, I am releasing the ban. It's now all up to #Nintendo to bring my #kadabra #pokemon card back."
When will the Kadabra Pokémon card be back?
Pokémon TCG fansite PokéBeach reported that they have seen a document announcing a possible upcoming Japanse release that will feature all 151 Pokémon from the first generation. The release would be scheduled for June in Japan.
If this rumour turns out to be true, there is a high chance that we will see a return of Kadabra, the Pokémon card, as a part of this nostalgic release.
